The Yellow Cow

Dear son and daughters,

I Will tell you a wonderful story. Its act are so strange and exciting. It happened a long time ago, and it is mentioned in the Holy Quran. All that happened at the time of the Messenger of Allah Moosa, son of Imran

The main character of this story from animal was the cow, and the Soorah was named by its name, Al Baqarah


In fact, what happened was an example which should be taken into consideration, and a miracle which shows us the Power of Allah. We shall read the verses first and then tell what happened. Allah says


Al Baqarah 67-73


The story of the cow reveals the nature of the Jews, and what they are molded from (eg love of heated argument, stinginess, lying, deception, and cheating)

It was early in the morning when people found the body of a dead man in front of one of the house

The man was called Ameel, and he was very rich. Ameel never had any relatives or heirs except her only nephew who was shocked when he heard the news and he immediately asked for his revenge from the owner of the house where his uncle was found

However, the man denied the accusation and insisted on denying until the problem reached its climax when a war seemed to begin.

At that time and in order not to cause a civil war between people, some rational man inverted and said to the two opponents: "How dare you fight and Moosa is still alive; we shall go now and ask him to talk to Allah inn order to discover the real murderer who shall get his punishment severely"

They then went to Moosa and the whole stituation was presented to him, as he was asked to talk to Allah and reveal the name of the mann who killed Ameel

Moosa then returned with an order, for them to sacrifice a cow. Unfortunately, they mocked at him, they didn't believe it was serious.

They do not obey Moosa and had they slaughtered any cow, that would have been enough; they began to argue in order to evade payment of the cow they had to slaughter, they said "Ask your Lord, make plain description for us"

The argue for three times, the more they argued, the more specific the cow's description given. Thus they have to search hardly. However, it was owned by an orphan who refused to sell it unless they paid to him as much as it weights in gold.

The Jews then were sad and frustrated, but they were forced to collect money and buy that cow. Now they felt sorry for arguing too much before. If not they would have any cow then.

After the slaughtering, they asked Moosa how they are going to know the killer.

Moosa said : "Strike the dead man with a piece of meat from the cow". And when they did, Allah brought the man to life to tell them the killer, and he died again.

It turned out that it was his nephew himself whose name was Ohayha al-Jallah. It seemed then that the reason was, he is going to inherit his properties, but he never did.

That was the first time when the killer is totally disinherited (tidak dapat warisan) from the properties of his victim, and when Islam came, that rule was confirmed.

Kisah soal-jawab Yahudi ini juga merupakan 'asbab nuzul' hadith ke 2 Matan Arbain Imam Nawawi, tentang persoalan Iman Islam Ihsan.

Bila Yahudi banyak soal-jawab macam sengal begitu sekali, para sahabat jadi takut untuk bersoal-jawab dengan Nabi. Bimbang itu adalah perlakuan biadab lagi sombong. Terlalu lama para sahabat diam, hingga Allah datangkan Jibril untuk bersoal-jawab dengan Nabi SAW. Khabarkan aku tentang iman, islam dan ihsan. Jibril datang mendidik para sahabat, bagaimana adab melontarkan soalan. Pakai pakaian bersih, duduk dengan sopan lagi bersungguh (lutut ke lutut dengan Baginda, dan tangan Jibril diletakkan atas peha baginda).
