Y. Bhg. Prof. Datuk Dr. Mohd. Noh Dalimin was born in 1952, in a small village in Batu Pahat, Johor. He started schooling in his village, and after he passed his Special Malay Class Examination he was accepted at an English medium school in Batu Pahat. After his LCE and MCE/SC examinations in a Batu Pahat high school, he completed his Form Six at the same school in 1971 and proceeded with a six-year education at an Islamic religious school in Johor.
Prof. Datuk Dr. Mohd. Noh Dalimin was a Professor of Physics at Universiti Malaysia Sabah. He was appointed Deputy Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs of the university in 1998 before holding the post of Vice Chancellor on 18 March 2005. He is a graduate of Universitas Gadjah Mada (B.Sc. Physics) and University of London Bedford’s College (M.Sc. Solid State Physics). He received his doctorate (Ph.D) in the field of experimental Physics (Solid State) from Imperial College of Science, Technology and Medicine, London.
He has had extensive experience in teaching, supervision, research and university administration over the past 29 years of his service. He is actively involved in student development and in various community development organisations and social work.
He started as a lecturer in physics, at Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia in 1981 and in the same year was appointed as member of the university Senate. He was entrusted to set up the undergraduate facilities for physics laboratories in a new building in Bangi Campus. He later established and headed the Material Science Programme, before his appointment as Deputy Dean of Research and Development in the Faculty of Science and Natural Resources, UKM branch campus in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah in 1992.
Since his appointment as a Professor of Physics in Universiti Malaysia Sabah in 1995, he has served as the foundation Dean, School of Science and Technology (from 1995 to 1998). The school is one of the first three schools to be set up, and is now the largest school in UMS. As the foundation Dean, Dr. Mohd. Noh started the school with what was available then. Staff recruitment, laboratory development, networking, student intake and building plans for the permanent campus had to be in place to receive the first batch of undergraduates in July 1995.
He was later promoted as Deputy Vice-Chancellor for Student Affairs, the first for UMS and was the longest serving Deputy Vice Chancellor of Student Affairs in the country, since his appointment in June 1998.

KOTA KINABALU 13 Mac - Penglibatan ramai ahli akademik dalam politik khususnya sebagai calon pada pilihan raya umum dikhuatiri akan menjejaskan kualiti, martabat dan kepercayaan masyarakat terhadap sistem pendidikan negara.
Naib Canselor Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS), Prof. Dr. Mohd. Noh Dalimin berkata, senario itu perlu diberi perhatian serius oleh pihak-pihak berkaitan supaya tidak menjadi satu trend pada masa akan datang.
Menurut beliau, apa yang disuara itu bukan bermaksud menghalang kebebasan ahli akademik menceburkan diri dalam dunia politik tetapi bimbang dengan kesan mutu dan kecemerlangan pendidikan tinggi untuk jangka masa panjang.
Katanya, kecenderungan sesetengah pensyarah untuk berpolitik boleh mengganggu tumpuan mereka sebagai tenaga pengajar yang baik dalam memajukan akademik termasuk melakukan kajian ilmiah dan penghasilan buku.
"Saya nampak pentadbiran universiti perlu mengambil perhatian mengatasi masalah ini daripada berterusan, hari ini ramai ahli akademik terlibat dalam politik pembangkang.
"Kita tidak bermaksud supaya mereka tidak boleh sokong parti kerajaan atau pembangkang, tetapi dengan berpolitik adakah mereka ini boleh menjadi ahli akademik yang cemerlang untuk mendidik para pelajar.
"Saya khuatir mereka gunakan waktu berada di universiti untuk berpolitik bukannya meningkatkan mutu akademik dan kalau begini kita sepatutnya tidak benarkan mereka menjadi pensyarah," katanya ketika ditemui di sini.
Kata Mohd. Noh, walaupun terpaksa meluahkan satu komen yang tidak popular, ia amat penting difikirkan bersama bagi mengelak kepercayaan masyarakat terhadap ahli akademik terhakis sama sekali.
Beliau turut melahirkan rasa sedih kerana pada masa ini kebanyakan universiti awam berada di negeri pembangkang seperti UKM, Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM), Universiti Malaya (UM), Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM), Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM), Universiti Perguruan Sultan Idris (UPSI) dan Universiti Malaysia Kelantan (UMK).
